Painting ice, black and white drawings and winter trees.

So we didn’t get the snow we hoped for at ART CLUB this morning, but the rain did clear to sun so we could enjoy painting our ice blocks outside.

Using watercolours we painted patterns, mixed colours and experimented with salt on the ice blocks. It was a fascinating process to watch how the salt ate away at the ice and see the paint colours mix and drop away. The children also loved breaking the ice at the end!

Inside we drew our inspiration from branches we collected earlier in the week to experiment with black and white drawings in charcoal on textured paper…

making winter tree models from art straws, tinfoil, piper cleaners and card…

And creating a large scale painting of winter trees with a limited pallet.

It has been a great morning experimenting with lots of different mediums and materials and it’s wonderful to see the children really enjoying themselves and having fun creating their artwork.
